THE MEXICAN AXOLOTL AND ITS CONSERVATION IN MICHOACAN
The Mexican axolotl is an emblematic species of our country, with great presence and biological importance. It is an aquatic amphibian that still in its adult phase, maintains larvae features; Explained in other words, the axolotl, which means “water monster”, has juvenile characteristics throughout its life. These peculiar features caught the attention of scientists who investigate more about these species to fight diseases such as cancer.
It is a native animal from Mexico’s oldest water lakes, which sadly since 2006 is considered a species in danger of extinction and in a critical situation, due to different factors that decrease its population, among which stands out its human consumption, its use for the development of medical treatments and diseases, its sale as pets, but mainly it is the water pollution as well as the decrease of the water level in the regions where these emblematic species live.
AXOLOTL IN DANGER OF EXTINCTION CONSERVATION PLAN- AvoOlio
In AvoOlio we have detected the presence of this amphibian in danger of extinction and we have decided to develop a program for the conservation and development of these species by implementing:
- Preservation methods and biological restoration
- By informing our community about the importance of respecting green
areas and the ecosystem. - Promoting the education for the water treatment.
- The creation of areas in water channels inside AvoOlio orchards to act as a
safe and protected shelter for the axolotl, free from predators and pollution.
Cerntainly it is a great challenge, however we believe in our community support, as well as the commitment that has been distinguished our team. It’s about a great solution that involves the planting of different plant species in the area that will set
up the Axolotl’s natural environment. Requiring a lot of effort that will worth it. At AvoOlio we understand our commitment to the environment that surrounds us, good environmental practices and the preservation of species by creating work plans for the cause and by informing our community about their importance and the positive impact we must generate for nature.
